Homebound, by Anoushay Dar

Writer.

I wrote this in response to my anger at the world on war and genocide.

Homebound follows three sets of pairings around the world, that, through sci-fi like interventions, they cross time and space through portals and eventually meet in a location in London.

It predominantly follows Zara and Noah who by happenstance continuously meet on their way to work, a meet-cute if you will. In the backdrop of their developing romance, war arises, but they continue to live their lives as the days increase in numbers towards more destruction. The stories they read of in the papers are of families disappearing and reappearing but half-way across the world, a pair of siblings land somewhere far from home. All while, soldiers are being told what to do by officials but not sure who for and why.

Inspired by Exit West by Mohsin Hamid, I really wanted to explore writing a text that blurs the lines between location and makes the audience, and characters question where they are and where they stand morally.

It was great to see my work interpreted and I am hoping to develop this piece further in the future.
