As part of an R&D week at Tara Theatre

Assistant Director.

I supported the R&D week alongside Gavin Joseph, Associate Director at Tara Theatre.

I loved this experience as I got to absorb all the energy in the room and learn from amazing creatives. The story was connected to my roots, working on stories about colonialism, in a post-partition headspace is something I wish to continue exploring in my own work. The poetry of the story truly moved me and inspired me to research colonial stories that have disappeared even more.

Within the project, I worked on projections and devising sequences for those projections that appear throughout the piece. Something that really interested me with the projections was working with creative captioning and learning how to develop this alongside the performance. Learning how fonts, size of text, translated text, all work in conjecture with each other to similarly tell the story.

I additionally worked with Mohit on the script and offered dramaturgical advice during sessions with Gurpreet Kaur Bhatti.

The piece was also grounded by movement and music, something I absolutely adore. I got to watch how movement directors and the musicality of a story work together to build the rhythm of characters.
